What Is Virtual Planet Technologies?

Virtual Planet is leveraging the latest technology and pairing it with effective and highly creative storytelling to help communities to better understand the imminent impacts of climate change and visualize practical solutions. Through powerful immersive digital experience, our aim is to educate, drive action and inspire hope in the future of our planet. As coastal communities worldwide contend with sea level rise, coastal erosion, and other impacts of climate change, a critical piece of the puzzle has become educating stakeholders in highly creative, insightful and practical ways. Virtual Planet Technologies, founded by Dr. Juliano Calil and Paulo Salvatore is the producer of a multi-media, interactive VR application that communities worldwide can use to better understand the impacts of climate change, as well as explore emerging adaptation solutions. Our applications support planning, management and monitoring activities related to sea level rise, storms, coastal erosion and more. Our team has a range of expertise from climate scientists, city planners, communications experts, filmmakers, 3D animators, and Unity (software) developers. Virtual Planet aims to create accessible, experiential VR products that allow its users—everyone from elementary school students to policy makers—to better grasp the implications of climate change, the long-term timelines around coastal impacts, and experience educational story materials while immersed in VR. In our tools, users interact with 3D models and can raise sea levels to observe potential flooding in real-time. Adaptation scenarios can also be displayed in 3D, including seawalls, relocation of coastal structures, and vegetated dunes to protect coastal areas. Other critical information such as socioeconomic characteristics, costs, and benefits of each alternative will also be featured in the VR experience.
