What Is University of Burdwan?
The University of Burdwan (also known as Burdwan University or B. U.) is a premier Four Star public university in Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal, India. It was established by the West Bengal Government as a teaching and affiliating university on 15 June 1960 with six graduate departments and 30 undergraduate colleges spread over three districts that come under the jurisdiction of the university. The jurisdiction covers Birbhum district, Burdwan district except Asansol subdivision and Hooghly district except Srirampore subdivision. The main campus is of 398 acres (approximately).The University has Four Academic campus—1. 1.Golapbag Campus 2.University Institute of Technology (campus for Engineering). 3.Rajbati Campus 4.Tarabag Campus It is awarded Four Star status by NAAC under UGC, Govt of India. The university offers more than 30 undergraduate and 66 postgraduate courses. There are 227 Esteemed Faculties and 189 affiliated colleges (including degree colleges, B.Ed. colleges and private professional institutes). The university has been awarded A Grade by the NAAC on 06/11/2016.The university has been awarded Four Star university among all Indian universities. Burdwan University is an autonomous state university. The governor of the state of West Bengal is its chancellor. Daily administration is handled under the leadership of the vice chancellor, who is appointed by the governor on the recommendations of the government of West Bengal. The vice chancellor is assisted by the pro vice chancellor who is de facto a senior faculty member of faculty of engineering and technology. In the administrative structure, the highest body is the university court. It consists of members elected by the staff of the university from amongst themselves as well as alumni. Next in hierarchy, comes the executive council, which takes all the decisions relating to day-to-day functioning. It consists of staff and student members from the three faculties.
