What Is Universities Superannuation Scheme (Ltd)?

Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) is the UK's largest pension scheme by assets, with £64bn under management (31 March 2018), dedicated to providing retirement benefits to 420,000 members across more than 350 institutions in the higher education sector. USS was established in 1974, a corporate trustee responsible for administering both defined (DB) and other benefits and defined contributions (DC) pensions, supported by c.200 London-based and c.270-Liverpool based staff. Our dedicated in-house investment team, USS Investment Management Limited, was established in 2012, managing over 75% of USS assets including £16bn in private market investments such as £3.6bn in property and £700m in green technologies. At USS we integrate environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) factors into our investment decision across asset classes. Through engagement, voting and stewardship, we use our influence as a major institutional investor to promote good ESG practices. We work with policy makers and regulators to ensure that the concerns of long-term asset owners and investors are clearly understood. Working at USS At USS we recognise that our employees are fundamental to our continued success and future growth. The development and support of all our employees is critical to achieving our goals. We believe in giving our employees opportunities to achieve their potential whilst increasing their knowledge and capability. Our commitment to our employee's professional and personal development is paramount and we offer continuing support in both of these areas. Our values and behaviours reflect our company culture and we strongly believe in trusting and empowering our employees.
