What Is Univenture?

With a $20,000 personal bank loan, Ross O. Youngs founded Univenture in 1988 to invent and manufacture innovative media packaging solutions for corporate customers in the US and abroad. Ross's educational background had exposed him to environmental science and industrial engineering. Combined with extensive work experience in the engineering of optical and videodiscs, he invented an exciting, new package for compact discs that not only protects the discs but also conserves resources. Ross received a US Patent in July 1989 for the innovative Safety-sleeve® design. The product was an immediate success and the company surpassed $1 million in sales in 1991. Univenture moved to a larger facility in 1994 and started one of the first packaging manufacturers' web sites. In 1995, Univenture opened a production facility in Sparks, Nevada to better serve the West Coast, while at the same time expanding floor space in Columbus, Ohio. The Packaging Systems division began offering automated solutions to high volume packagers in 1996 and the U-1000 Technology Group was formed to create and implement new technology. This brought about a new type of outsourcing, common in many industries today, wherein Univenture manufactured, installed and operated its U-1000 automated packaging machine in a customer's production facility. Univenture expanded its global presence by opening a facility in Dublin, Ireland in 1998. A western sales office was established in late 2002 in Reno, Nevada to better serve its customers in western North America. Today, the company provides a wide variety of customizable, cost effective packaging and storage options, binders and automated packaging machinery and continues to be especially well known for its Safety-sleeve® product line. Univenture has received numerous industry awards and accolades for its constant innovation, commitment to its customers and its sales growth. The company has repeatedly been listed on the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing private companies and Ross Youngs has been named Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration and Manufacturing Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young.
