What Is USSI?
For over 95 years, USSI has continued its commitment to excellence, innovation and exceeding client expectations. In 1912, Charles Herschel, a European immigrant, founded the United States Window Cleaning Company. In 1941, Charles\'s daughter married Harry Epstein. Harry bought into the window cleaning company and eventually became Charles\'s successor. This started a period of expansion that led the company to new frontiers: sandblasting and steam cleaning. The result was a small but growing cleaning firm in Washington, DC. When Harry retired in 1967, his son Michael took over the company. Michael brought with him a new vision, transforming USSI into a full-service janitorial firm,with a focus on customer service and satisfaction. In 1972 a customer convinced USSI to open an office in Florida, where we operate today throughout the state. Following Michael David Epstein as USSI\'s president and CEO was Jim Matthews, who led USSI through a period of unprecedented growth. In 1998 Tim Ruben was promoted to president and CEO of USSI. Tim\'s first act was to formalize his vision for the company into the set of USSI\'s Basic Beliefs, now the foundation for everything that USSI represents. This initiative led the way to making USSI more market-driven and greatly increased the quality of service USSI provided. Michael\'s original vision of a cleaning service focused on innovation and customer service had become a precise and powerful mission. Today, as the preeminent janitorial service provider in Florida and the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area, USSI cleans over 25 million square feet daily.
