What Is Tum-A-Lum Lumber Company?
The Company was founded in 1906 by J. M. Crawford. The name Tum-A-Lum is a Umatilla Indian phrase for "spreading waters" and reflected the annual run-off from the Blue Mountains in the Walla Walla basin. The first yard was located in Touchet, Washington, three years after J.M. bought out a partner in a Walla Walla millwork shop. In 1910, Tum-A-Lum opened its second yard at the present Redmond, Oregon location. J.M. turned the company over to his two sons in 1921.
