What Is Trust Automation?

Trust Automation was founded in San Luis Obispo, California in 1990. Ty Safreno started the business as a Motion / Machine control consulting company. The company's primary function and focus first 6 years was helping businesses with their motion control problems, providing services in Electrical, Mechanical and Software Design. Trudie Morgan, now Trudie Safreno, was asked to join Trust Automation shortly after the company opened its doors. Trudie is a co-founder and co-owner of Trust Automation Inc. Her business finance background and her family history of business management are reflected in the management style of the company today and are key elements which have contributed to the company's financial stability over the years. Trust Automation's first customer was a local business called Specialty Silicon Fabricators. Specialty Silicon developed a proprietary silicon molding process which could be enhanced utilizing a motion control system. Trust Automation used an industry available controller and wrote the custom firmware for their application. The company continued to pursue electrical, mechanical and software services contracts. Bandag Inc, a manufacturer and supplier of tire retread machines and the rubber needed for the retread process, was introduced to Trust Automation in 1992. Working very closely with the Bandag Engineering team, Trust Automation developed several versions of firmware, resulting in the tire industries first fully automatic Tire Buffer. The Model XX Buffer is still being sold today by Bandag Inc. Bandag had become Trust Automation's first large OEM customer. Now manufacturing custom product for an OEM, Trust Automation began to grow as did the need for manufacturing space. The company moved from the modest beginnings home office, to a 3000 square foot warehouse / office space. In late 1992, the company began hiring additional people, expanding their sales and customer contacts and obtaining Motion Control consulting contracts across the United States. By 1996 the company business model began to evolve. Trust Automation continued to offer Systems Integration and Consulting Services, (as they continue to do today), but now began releasing some of their first standard products. This approach, offering standard products as well as integration and services, allowed the company to apply new technologies developed through unique, custom, cutting edge machine design experience, into developing standard product lines. The expanding demand for Trust Automation's products and System Integration services has produced steady year over year growth since the company's inception. To support this growth, Trust Automation's facilities today occupy three buildings totaling over 23,000 square feet. A new facility is currently in the planning stages for which ground was first broken in late 2005. Trust Automation's future campus, located near the San Luis Obispo airport will ultimately consist of six buildings with over 80,000 square feet of Manufacturing, Engineering and Administration space. Over the years, Trust Automation has maintained a customer friendly, conservatively run and financially successful business. The conservative business approach of our founders combined with and energetic and innovative engineering group allow us to provide Smart Solutions in Motion Control today and far into the future.
