Tropo Farm Company Limited was established in 1997 along the shores of the Volta Lake in Ghana to supply fresh Tilapia and has consistently provided fresh on ice quality fish to the market. From annual tilapia production and sales of over 2,000 metric tons, it has consistently increased its capacity to over 15,000 metric tons currently. It is now Africa’s second largest tilapia farm just behind Lake Harvest in Zimbabwe. The Company has two dedicated hatcheries: a 32 acre hatchery at Asutsuare on the Volta River near Akuse where it produces over 20 million production-ready fingerlings per year, and the Anyaase hatchery where we also produce additional fingerlings. Growout production is at two primary locations. The first growout site is at Mpakadan, 6 km upstream of the Akosombo dam on a deepwater site in the Agina Gorge. This site is pristine. The second locations is Offshore, further upstream on the volta lake in deeper waters favourable for Tilapia production. There are no cities in the Volta Basin, no industries upstream and water quality is perfect. Tilapia is native to the Volta Basin – thus this is trully a “tilapia territory”. The pride of the Company is in taking care to leave as little an environmental footprint as possible at these production sites. The team is really a multicultural mix of technically competent Ghanaians and professionals from Europe, South America, North America, Southern Africa, etc. all focused on delivering value for our shareholders. The Company distributes its fish in the local market through the brand name Volta Catch at its Depots in Tema, Malata, Kasoa, Takoradi and Kumasi.
