OUR MISSION To provide quality individualized services to people with intellectual or developmental disabilities in dynamic and innovative environments. OUR VISION The Opportunity Tree is committed to promoting the development of a society that fully embraces individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through inclusion, advocacy, and opportunities. We understand that the work to be done to achieve this mission reaches far beyond our walls. Through offering dynamic opportunities to our members to engage in workplace training, the arts, recreational activities and volunteer projects, we aim to empower our members to become their own advocates and champions. It is through this effort that we will achieve a more inclusive and just world for all. HISTORY For over 55 years, The Opportunity Tree has been committed to providing quality, individualized support to people with physical or intellectual challenges in a dynamic, creative and fun environment. The Opportunity Tree is an organization with roots that trace back to the early days of the civil rights movement for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities—going back to 1955. In that year, the Arizona Society for the Brain Injured was founded with the goal of giving children the opportunity to develop the capabilities to live happy and fulfilling lives. In 1963, The Opportunity Tree was created when the Arizona Society for the Brain Injured and the Self Aid Workshop merged. Through this merger, our organization was set up for a successful future and evolution that includes: expanding to Casa Grande and Maricopa, and adding Vocational Programs, Residential and Respite Programs as well as a new Creative Arts Program. In 2018, The Opportunity Tree began offering a Youth Transitions Program, allowing us to come full circle to embrace our history of serving the youth of Phoenix, Casa Grande and Maricopa into the future.
