What Is The HON Company?
Our company, the second largest U.S. office furniture manufacturer, began modestly after World War II, when three businessmen used scrap metal to manufacture small, index card file boxes for kitchen use. Founder C. Maxwell Stanley, a consulting engineer, originally wanted to manufacture home appliances. He invited his brother-in-law, Clement T. Hanson, a successful advertising executive, and H. Wood Miller, an industrial designer, to join him. The three men conceived a revolutionary new design of steel kitchen cabinets to help organize the kitchen. They named their enterprise "The Home-O-Nize Company," incorporating in 1944.
