What Is The Garwood Foundation?
THE GARWOOD FOUNDATION: working with people with disabilities. RUTHERFORD SCHOOL is an Independent Special School for up to 25 children aged 3–19 years with PMLD, severe sensory impairment and complex medical needs. The curriculum delivers bespoke education integrated with physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, rebound therapy, SALT, OT, music therapy and nursing care. The School has an immersive learning space and separate unique Sensory Room which has been designed specifically to empower the pupils to effectively control their environment. JEAN GARWOOD HOUSE is a residential home for adults with a range of disabilities which prides itself on its sense of community. To meet their needs, the residents at the home are encouraged to lead as independent and sociable lives as possible with the support of the care team. There are 10 residents’ rooms and a respite room on the ground floor. The first floor provides three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, communal sitting room, kitchen and lift. These rooms, with staff support, allow residents to learn skills to live more independently. BRAMLEY HILL CENTRE is a day centre for up to 60 adults aged 18–70+ with various disabilities such as cerebral palsy, degenerative and acquired disabilities. It provides a safe, friendly and supportive environment in which to enjoy educational and therapeutic activities and work opportunities. All clients given the support and encouragement to maintain their best level of mental and physical health. Support services such as physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, use of exercise and mobility equipment, music and drama therapy, yoga, adult education and independent living skills training are available as well as recreational activities such as art, sewing, gardening, woodwork and outings. THE FOUNDATION’S CARAVAN is designed specifically for disabled people and is fully wheelchair accessible. Service users and other disabled adults who would benefit from a holiday can access it.
