What Is The Foundation for Black Women's Wellness?

Established in June 2012, The Foundation for Black Women's Wellness is a Wisconsin based non-profit organization committed to eliminating health disparities and other barriers impacting the lives of Black women and girls. We exist to empower Black women and girls to live healthy, well and thriving lives. Though African American Women make up roughly 7% of the U.S. population and 14% percent of the total population of women, we are over-represented in all major categories of disease and illness, including hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, stroke, obesity and reproductive disorders. We bear the greatest burden of health disparities among women nationally and locally in Dane County and the State of Wisconsin, compounded by unacceptable social and economic disparities. Because of this, we are committed to radically transforming Black Women's health by mobilizing women, communities, and partners to create the powerful change we need.
