What Is Syncrude Canada?

Syncrude is one of the largest operators in Canada’s oil sands industry with a 50-year history of responsible operations and ongoing innovation. \n\nWe’re proud to be a local operator based in Fort McMurray, Alberta, with a large research and development facility in Edmonton. Our operations are supported by 4,700 employees. \n\nSyncrude is known for pioneering many of the technologies used today in the industry, including an expanding suite of techniques to improve environmental and economic performance. \n\nWe are also a recognized leader in Aboriginal relations, as evidenced by annual procurement of more than $300 million from Aboriginal-owned companies - over $3 billion to date. Syncrude is recognized as one of the country’s largest employers of Aboriginal people. \n\nReclamation is a top priority with over 3,800 hectares of former mine land now restored, and another 1,000 hectares ready for revegetation. To date, Syncrude has planted more than 8.5 million tree and shrub seedlings, and is involved in pioneering work to reclaim wetlands, such as our Sandhill Fen. \n\nSyncrude contributed over $5.4 billion to the Canadian economy in 2017 – with over one third in the local Wood Buffalo region – through the procurement of goods and services, payment of taxes and royalties, salaries, wages and benefits.\n\nFor more information, visit: www.syncrude.ca.
