What Is Sitar Arts Center?

Sitar Arts Center's mission is to offer possibilities that transform the lives of children and teens born into a world of unequal access to opportunity. Sitar engages Washington, DC youth in visual, performing, and digital arts. Through the arts our students learn about themselves and gain critical life skills. Sitar Arts Center's vision is a city where families across the cultural, economic, and racial spectrum, can live and thrive in a city that fervently believes that high-quality arts education and transformative arts experiences for all are essential. For its valuable contributions, Sitar has been recognized locally and nationally with, 2017 Mayor's Arts Award for Excellence in Arts Education; a 2015 Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management from The Washington Post; and a 2009 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award.
