What Is Seminis?

Seminis, Inc. is a worldwide developer, producer and marketer of vegetable and fruit seeds. The Company produces more than 60 species and 4,000 vegetable and fruit seed products, which do not include tree and citrus fruits. Seminis markets seeds through four full-line brands (Seminis, Asgrow, Petoseed and Royal Sluis) and five specialty and regional brands. The Company also markets seeds through regional or specialty brands, which are targeted to respond to the needs of local markets. The Company uses seeds as the delivery vehicle for agricultural technology. Seminis develops seeds designed to reduce the need for chemicals, increase crop yield, reduce spoilage, offer longer shelf life, create better-tasting foods and provide better nutritional value for consumers. Substantially all of the Company's seeds are developed through its hybridization process. In September 2003, Seminis completed the sale of the Company to Fox Paine & Company, LLC, a San-Francisco-based private equity firm. (Source: 10-K)
