May is Better Hearing & Speech Month The Speech and Language Department is a group that is a vital part of our students’ academic achievement. May is “Better Hearing & Speech Month!” and an opportunity to recognize their efforts. Seventy-five Speech and Language Pathologists work with a wide variety of students in U-46 to help them improve their speech and language skills. This dedicated group works with students on sound production and moving the muscles necessary for speech and chewing. They help children understand and use language appropriately such as vocabulary and following directions. They may work on the ability to produce smooth speech or the pitch, quality, and volume of their speech are all a part of their work.
