Schatz Energy Research Center Revenue and Competitors

The Schatz Energy Research Center (SERC) specializes in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and hydrogen energy systems. Our work involves research and development, energy systems analysis, technology demonstration, project development, and education and training. In addition, we perform feasibility and energy planning studies and resource assessments. SERC is located on the Humboldt State University Campus in Arcata, California. Current projects include working with the World Bank Group to establish and implement quality standards for off-grid solar products that provide energy access to people in Africa and Asia. We're developing technology to allow use of stranded biomass in our forests for energy production. We've just installed a renewable based microgrid for the Blue Lake Rancheria in rural northern California to provide power to their Red Cross disaster shelter, as well as add 500 kW of renewable power to the grid. SERC is affiliated with Humboldt State University’s Environmental Resources Engineering program. This partnership provides a rare opportunity for undergraduate and graduate engineering students to acquire hands-on experience with emerging energy technologies.
