What Is Safe Harbor Crisis Center?
Safe Harbor, a non-profit organization, provides shelter, supportive services and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as education, awareness and resources to our community. Safe Harbor Crisis Center is the first and ONLY domestic violence and rape crisis center in Davis County, UT. In 1994 a group of concerned citizens in Davis County took action to address the disturbing trend of violence against women they’d noticed in their community. There were limited support services and no shelter in Davis County forcing domestic violence victims and their children to travel to Salt Lake City or Weber County for safety and shelter. They formed the Davis Citizens’ Coalition Against Violence and the grassroots movement became a 501(c)3 organization, raising the funds to build the Domestic Violence Shelter in Davis County now known as Safe Harbor Crisis Center. Since opening its doors in 1997, Safe Harbor services have continued to expand to better serve the needs of survivors in the community. Free services now include: Emergency Protective Shelter; Domestic Violence Outreach Services; Domestic Violence Diversity Program; Children’s Services; 24-Hour Crisis Response; Domestic Violence Transitional Housing; Sexual Assault Services; Protective Order Assistance; and Community Outreach and Education. Plus, in 2015 we launched an Economic Empowerment Program that helps low-income domestic violence survivors with dependent children with job preparedness and work retention, which Layton residents will benefit from. Safe Harbor Crisis Center offers survivors of domestic and sexual violence hope, services, and a safe place to create a future free of violence. Domestic and sexual violence can happen to anyone and impacts everyone. We must work together to create a society where violence is not tolerated. We are offering hope, ending the silence...
