What Is Recycled Paper Greetings?
College roommates Phil Friedmann and Mike Keiser founded Recycled Paper Greetings (RPG) in 1971 and ran the operation from a small, two-bedroom bungalow apartment in Chicago. Originally, the idea was to introduce greeting cards on 100% recycled paper and help the industry giants accept the environmental wisdom of recycled paper for greeting cards. Phil and Mike found that their greeting cards attracted the interest of independent artists seeking the freedom to have fun with greeting card occasions. This irreverent humor was termed "alternative" by the industry because it ran counter to the traditional, mostly serious cards on the market. RPG rapidly became an American business phenomenon, taking off on the wings of environmental commitment and a humor-driven, creative edge. Today, RPG is still headquartered in Chicago and is included in the portfolio of companies held by Monitor Clipper Partners, a private equity investment firm. Our greeting cards - now divided equally between funny and affectionate designs - are still famed for their originality. And we still care about the environment. We've come a long way since the days in a little apartment, but, except for becoming the nation's third-largest greeting card company, RPG hasn't changed all that much! When Phil Friedmann and Mike Keiser founded RPG more than 30 years ago, they never realized that their idea of printing cards on recycled paper would launch a revolution in greeting card production. Today, RPG is the industry leader in alternative cards and has set new standards in retailer service and card design. Recycled Paper Greetings, Inc. provides both humorous and affectionate designs with presentation options suited for any retailer. Our product lines are constantly evaluated and updated. RPG remains as committed to the card-buying public today as it was in the beginning.
