Accounting & Accounting ServicesRea & Associates, Inc., a certified public accounting firm, was founded out of the ashes of the Great Depression. When President Roosevelt closed all banks in March 1933, the young accountants at a large Cleveland accounting firm were furloughed with instructions to return in the fall. One of them, Richard Rea, saw this as an opportunity. He returned to his hometown of New Philadelphia, Ohio, where he met a local banker who was upset that he did not have adequate financial information to support his bank’s business loans. So Richard Rea began installing business accounting systems in the businesses that were bank customers.
