What Is Queensland Rail?

Queensland Rail has a proud history of contributing to Queensland’s economic, social and regional development. Throughout our 150 year history, our organisation has adapted to meet the changing needs of the growing State of Queensland. With more than 5,800 staff, more than six billion dollars in assets and more than 6,500 kilometres of track, Queensland Rail is a strong and powerful integrated customer and rail infrastructure business. During the last financial year, there were more than 50 million customer journeys trips taken on the Citytrain network (South East Queensland), and more than 700,000 customer journeys on the Travel network (long distance) and tourist trains. We service the highly populated centres of the south-east, connect the regions of the state, and take domestic and international tourists to some of Queensland’s world famous locations. Our major business includes long distance trains, rail holidays and travel centres and management and access to the south-east Queensland passenger and regional freight networks. At Queensland Rail, safety comes first. It doesn't just happen — it’s our number one priority and we want to ensure that everyone goes home safely. Our customers are also a key priority. Without our customers, we don’t have a business. We make it our business to ensure that our customers’ needs always come first. At Queensland Rail, we strive to set new standards of excellence in safety and customer service; to keep Queensland moving, and to deliver our future.
