What Is Providence Day School?

Founded in 1970, Providence Day School is an independent, coeducational college preparatory school located on a 43.5 acre-campus in southeast Charlotte, North Carolina. Applicants to the school are selected on the basis of personal interview, previous school performance and recommendations, standardized tests and academic proficiency. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, national or ethnic origin. There are approximately 1,500 in the Lower (TK-5th grade), Middle (6th-8th grade) and Upper (9th-12th grade) Schools and an administrative and teaching staff of 300. Providence Day School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, participates in the ABC (A Better Chance) Program and holds memberships in the National Association of Independent Schools, Educational Records Bureau, National and Southern Associations of College Admission Counselors, and the College Board. Providence Day School complies with the NACAC Statement of Principles of Good Practice. The only school in North Carolina to be cited for excellence by the U.S. Department of Education, the College Board Advanced Placement Program, the National Council of Teachers of English and the Tandy Technical Scholars Program, Providence Day School offers a traditional college preparatory program of studies.
