What Is Project Learn of Summit County?

Since 1981, Project Learn, one of the longest-serving, most successful non-profits in the region, has provided the tools thousands of adults need to improve their lives through education. As the only comprehensive provider of adult literacy programs for Summit County, Project Learn helps individuals become workforce ready, furthering both their success and the economic strength and sustainability of the region. The program’s primary purpose is to promote the development of beginning competence in literacy on an individual or group basis to adults 16 years of age or older who are not enrolled in school. Project Learn seeks to provide the necessary support and assistance so every adult can develop to his or her fullest potential. The program offers the opportunity for each individual to work toward broader participation in the social, cultural, economic and political fabric of life. Project Learn is a guiding light – illuminating each student’s educational journey toward personal growth and individual achievement. However, Project Learn doesn’t just benefit individuals, it benefits entire communities. With more than 18 percent of adults in Summit County considered functionally illiterate, Project Learn’s services are essential to our region. Those with low literacy levels are more likely to be on welfare, work fewer weeks per year and commit or be involved in crimes. But Project Learn is working to change these statistics and help build a stronger regional economy. A more educated population means a more vibrant community. Through our complete adult education services, we’re helping thousands of community members improve their lives and the lives of their families.
