What Is Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust?

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest acute hospital trusts in the country treating over half a million patients each year. The Trust is the second largest employer in Portsmouth. Who we care for: We provide comprehensive secondary care and specialist services to a local population of 675,000 people across South East Hampshire. We also offer some speciality services to a wider catchment of around two million people. Our population is characterised by its diversity — the rural and the urban, areas of wealth juxtaposed with real pockets of deprivation, and gaps in life expectancy. Our hospitals and centres: Most of our services are provided at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham, but we also offer a range of outpatient and diagnostic facilities closer to patients’ homes in community hospital sites and at local treatment centres throughout South East Hampshire. Queen Alexandra Hospital The hospital underwent major redevelopment work, which was completed in 2009, to create a modern and 'fit for purpose' hospital which boasts 38 theatres (27 main, 3 eye theatres, 2 maternity and 6 endoscopy), superb critical care facilities, two purpose built interventional radiology suites and a state of the art pathology laboratory. The Emergency Department at Queen Alexandra Hospital is one of the busiest in the UK treating in excess of 130,000 patients each year. We are organised into 10 Clinical Service Centres (CSC’s) - Clinical Support; Emergency Medicine; Head & Neck; Medicine; Medicine for Older People, Rehabilitation & Stroke; Renal & Transplantation; Cancer & Surgery; Theatres, Anaesthetics & Critical Care; Trauma, Orthopaedics, Rheumatology & Pain; Women & Children.
