What Is Portland Spirit?

The Portland Spirit, Willamette Star, Crystal Dolphin and Outrageous Jetboat vessels are locally owned and locally operated by American Waterways, Inc. since 1994. Our staff includes 20 full-time and up to 110 seasonal employees. In March of 1998 we moved our offices to our East Side riverfront property, located just upstream (South) of OMSI (The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) and Portland Opera. In 2000 we finished the construction of Caruthers Landing, our moorage and maintenance facility at our property. The Water Avenue expansion project, completed in 1999, provides easy access to the Southeast riverfront area. You still may find it a little tricky finding our offices, should you choose to visit us there. Here's a map to help you. Our President and General Manager is Daniel H. Yates, originally from upstate New York, Dan went on to serve in the U.S. Navy, received his Bachelor's from Centre College in Kentucky and his MBA from the University of Virginia.
