What Is Perth International Arts Festival?
WE EXIST TO STIMULATE CULTURAL LIFE IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA. Perth International Arts Festival curates and presents an annual arts festival of the highest international quality. We aspire to create new work and stimulate discourse about Western Australia and our place in a complex and political world. The Festival’s ambition is to lift audience expectations and opportunities for Western Australian arts practice, contributing to a vibrant and resilient culture. Founded in 1953 by The University of Western Australia, the Perth International Arts Festival is the longest running international arts festival in Australia and Western Australia’s premier cultural event. The Festival has developed a worldwide reputation for excellence in its international program, the presentation of new works and the highest quality artistic experiences for its audience. Since 1953, PIAF has welcomed to Perth some of the world’s greatest living artists and now connects with over 500,000 people each year in Perth and the Great Southern. Wendy Martin is the Artistic Director 2016—19.
