What Is Pacific Whale Foundation?
Our mission at Pacific Whale Foundation is to inspire and promote appreciation, understanding and protection of whales, dolphins, coral reefs and our planet's oceans. We accomplish this through public environmental education, by supporting and conducting responsible marine research, and by addressing marine conservation issues through activism and education. To save whales from extinction – that was the dream of Greg Kaufman, the founder of Pacific Whale Foundation. Kaufman became actively involved in the fight to save whales from extinction during the 1970s. As part of an international campaign to end commercial whaling, Kaufman visited many countries with a life-sized inflatable humpback whale and a compelling plea to protect whales. Meeting with government leaders, public policy makers and concerned citizens, Kaufman recognized the need for more scientific data about whales and the growing public thirst for knowledge about these mysterious ocean-dwelling animals.
