What Is PRESTIGE INTERIORS CORPORATION?
Now one of the largest companies in the United States performing this specialized construction activity, Prestige Interiors Corporation has sold and installed raised access flooring since 1975 when it was formed by Chester H. Chambers, Jr. In 1997, his son, Scott Chambers joined the company after a successful sales/marketing career with a major oil field chemical company. He has taken over the reins from his father and now serves as President, with Chester still active in a consulting role. Chester's grandson and Scott's nephew, Michael Eason, is also a member of the leadership team, helping to move the company into the future. Working as a contractor building the Johnson Space Center in Houston in 1971, Chester was introduced to the concept of access floors. Recognizing its potential, he formed Southwest Technical Products and represented Weber, a manufacturer located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This association continued for two years in competition with the local Tate Access Floors dealer. In 1974, Southwest Technical Products landed a major job to install 1.4 million square feet of Weber flooring for USAA in San Antonio, Texas. Shortly after, Weber moved its manufacturing facilities to Taylor, Texas to be nearer the USAA jobsite and was acquired by Tate, which also purchased Southwest Technical Products to manage the USAA project. After successfully completing that assignment in 1975 Chester formed Prestige Interiors to represent the Liskey Architectural Products Company and expanded the product line to include air conditioners for computer rooms and modular office furniture, which were eventually dropped to allow the company to focus on its core competency - access floors. Through a series of acquisitions by a number of companies, the Liskey product line once again was integrated into the Tate brand, and with each acquisition, Prestige Interiors was appointed representative. Today, as a leading Tate Access Floors dealer, Prestige Interiors is headquarted in Houston, Texas and boasts an extensive inventory to quickly respond to customer needs. From a modest warehouse of just several hundred square feet in the 1970s, the company now operates its offices and storage in more than 30,000 square feet. In 1985, Prestige opened its Dallas location which today rivals the Houston headquarters in inventory on hand. An Austin location was formed in 2000 to serve the growing Austin and San Antonio markets, and the three locations combined represent the largest inventory of raised flooring in Texas. Solid growth over the past three years has stemmed from the expansion of the telecommunications industry, the dramatic impact of the Internet, and the use of low level floor systems as wire management devices in offices -- which led to a record number of installations throughout the country. Prestige participated in this burgeoning of the access floor industry in Texas and other southern states. The additions of a cable tray system, the sale and installation of carpet and formal maintenance, repair and cleaning services augmented company growth as well. But most important, our team caused our growth, through a dedication to serving our clients well, with a sense of urgency, attention to detail and great pride in workmanship.
