What Is Outback Therapeutic Expeditions?
outBACK Therapeutic Expeditions is a highly effective, clinically informed treatment program dedicated to bringing families BACK together. Utilizing the wilderness as an alternative to traditional treatment settings, we guide students (13-17) and families in their process of reconnecting to Self, re-engaging with Family, and recommitting to Purpose. Our clinically sophisticated methods incorporate evidence-based psychological practices into an intentional program designed to yield the highest clinical value for students and their families. Unlike any other wilderness therapy program, our assessment and evaluation systems combine the work of multiple therapists for each student enrolled at outBACK. Primary therapists who manage and oversee the treatment process for students are set up to delve deeper into the psycho-social-emotional challenges of their students with the addition of our field therapists. Masters level Field Therapists are immersed in the group daily to teach and reinforce various clinical skills/workshops and work closely with Primary Therapists to provide additional layer of clinical insight. In addition to this unique treatment design, a purpose-driven adventure therapy, focused on transition readiness, is integrated into the program and all families work with a dedicated family therapist on family-focused interventions. We at outBACK, believe in maximizing the amount of information, instruction, and insight gained by families throughout treatment. As such, we believe it is critical to utilize a strength-based approach without level systems, increase standards of clinical oversight throughout every aspect of programming, and assist families reapply what they know, reassess where they are, and realign to make necessary adjustments prior to transitioning out of our program.
