Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. and its utility subsidiaries supply electricity and gas to a territory covering approximately 1,350 square miles in parts of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. As of December 31, 1998, the Company furnished electric service to approximately 274,000 customers in 96 communities with an estimated population of 687,000, and gas service to approximately 117,000 customers in 57 communities with an estimated population of 485,000. The Company has two utility subsidiaries, Rockland Electric Company, a New Jersey corporation, and Pike County Light & Power Company, a Pennsylvania corporation. The Company has three active non-utility subsidiaries, Clove Development Corporation, O&R Development, Inc., an industrial and corporate land development company and O&R Energy Development, Inc., an oil and natural gas production company.
