What Is Office of the Auditor General for Western Australia?

The Auditor General is a statutory officer with responsibility for auditing the state public sector. The Auditor General is an independent officer of Parliament and is supported by an Office that is a public sector department. The Auditor General and Office report directly to Parliament not a government Minister. Three parliamentary committees, Public Accounts Committee, Estimates and Financial Operations Committee and Joint Standing Committee on Audit, have particular oversight of our operations. Our role is to serve the public interest by providing Parliament with independent and impartial information about public sector accountability and performance. We manage the annual financial audits of the state’s 190 agencies and subsidiaries. In addition to our financial audits, we also assess the efficiency and effectiveness of public sector agencies and programs through performance audits.
