OU College of Medicine Revenue and Competitors

OU Physicians is the clinical practice of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. We also serve as faculty at the college and train the region's future physicians. With nearly 450 doctors, we are the largest physician group in Oklahoma. In the early 1990s, College of Medicine leadership envisioned an expanded role in patient care. Revenues from this not-for-profit clinical practice fund the teaching and research aspects of the college. Growth in these revenues would enable the college to significantly strengthen its facilities, staff, research and renown. Based on this vision, the faculty practice plan was established in July 1991. Thus, leadership and many operations changed from a department-based model to a multi-specialty group practice with a shared management team, governance and standards, managed care contracting and marketing. The group was called University Physicians Medical Group from 1996 to 2001, when it was renamed OU Physicians. When not caring for patients, we train the region's future physicians and perform research that's transforming health care in Oklahoma and the region.
