What Is Norwegian Cruise Line Corporation?

Miami-based Norwegian Cruise Line Limited is a global cruise company and industry innovator that currently operates a fleet of nine ships sailing to more than 200 ports around the world. Through its recently introduced Homeland Cruising program, NCL now offers regularly scheduled, round-trip cruises from more US and Canadian ports than any other cruise line. In 2000, NCL's parent company, NCL Holding ASA, was acquired by Star Cruises PLC of Malaysia. Following the acquisition, Star Cruises became the fourth largest cruise line in the world. In May, NCL announced its Freestyle Cruising concept, which offers passengers a more relaxed, resort-style cruise product with complete flexibility and non-intrusive service that includes open seating and extended hours in the main restaurants, alternative dining facilities, "resort-casual" attire, increased crew-to-guest staffing, simplified tipping procedures, and a more leisurely disembarkation procedure. On August 19, 2002, NCL announced the contract to buy all of the materials, equipment and the work performed to date on the two "Project America" vessels under construction. The modified first "Project America" ship will sail as the latest addition to NCL's revolutionary Freestyle Cruising fleet. The yet-to-be-named vessel will be delivered in Spring 2004 and will be the fourth new ship for NCL in as many years. Norwegian Cruise Line's benefit program reflects the company philosophy of recognizing individual needs. NCL provides a menu of benefit options where employees have the flexibility to pick and choose from 3 types of medical and dental plans, vision, Group Legal. Life Insurance and AD&D, cruising privileges, savings plan, vacation time, tuition reimbursement and more.
