What Is Newton-Conover City Schools?

Description of the Award- The Newton-Conover City Schools District has been extremely fortunate over the years to have had numerous dedicated individuals who have committed themselves to the success of the district. These individuals have given of their time, effort, finances and other resources, expecting nothing in return. The success of the district over the years is in no small part due to these dedicated champions of the cause. A Red Blazer committee will select up to three individuals annually to be recognized with a Red Blazer Award. Nomination- Nominations for the award will be accepted from February 1- March 1 each year. Nomination forms are also available at the Newton-Conover City Schools administrative office or by clicking here. Neither current Board of Education members nor current school system employees are eligible for the award. Nominations may be made posthumously. Nominees do not have to have been a former employee of the school district. The committee will then select and notify up to three (3) recipients on the second week of March. Candidates who are nominated, but are not awarded, will remain on a nomination list that will be maintained by the committee. Please return all nomination forms to Dr. David Stegall, 605 N. Ashe Avenue, Newton, NC 28658 no later than Thursday, March 1, 2012. Please use the nomination form to summarize the major contributions that the nominee made to Newton-Conover City Schools. This may include, but not be limited to significant time or resource contributions made to a school or program, significant monetary contributions made to the district, or significant impacts made to the district culture. Please also include information on how the nominee affected you or others personally. If possible, please list other possible contacts with first-hand knowledge of the nominee. Please be as specific as possible. Mode of Recognition- Each selected honoree will be presented with a red blazer and a plaque to commemorate their honor. The committee will commission an award logo to be designed that will be embroidered on the blazer. A picture and a description of each winner will be housed in a prominent location within the district. Recognition Event – A semi-formal (daytime attire) banquet will be planned for May 24th, 2012 to recognize the recipient. Costs for the selected honorees and their spouse will be covered by the school system. Event tickets for other interested participants will be available beginning in March. The blazer being awarded will either be received by the individual or a family member of the recipient if the recipient is unable to accept the award personally. Additionally, each year, inductees or their designee will be recognized at the NCHS graduation ceremony in June. Displaying of the award – In addition to the award recipients being given a Red Blazer adorned with the Red Blazer logo, there will also be a plaque displayed somewhere in the school system with a description of what the award stands for and the annual recipients names.
