Newfield Exploration Company (NYSE:NFX) is an independent crude oil and natural gas exploration and production company. We rely on a proven growth strategy - balancing acquisitions with drill bit opportunities. Our areas of operation include the Gulf of Mexico, the onshore U.S. Gulf Coast, the Anadarko and Arkoma Basins, China’s Bohai Bay and the North Sea. We were founded in 1989 and went public in 1993. Our early focus centered on the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico and this remained our sole focus area through the mid-1990s. Over the last several years, we have acquired significant onshore assets. These onshore reserves are in longer-lived basins. At year-end 2003, about 60% of our proved reserves were located onshore. We have recently added opportunities in the Gulf of Mexico’s deepwater play and have initiated an exploration program in the North Sea.
