What Is Neighborhood House of Milwaukee?

The mission of Neighborhood House of Milwaukee is to build a strong community by strengthening individuals, families, and the neighborhood. For almost 75 years Neighborhood House has been on the front lines in the fight against inner-city poverty in Milwaukee, building stronger families and neighborhoods. Neighborhood House was founded in 1945 as a safe and nurturing place for urban youth, families and seniors. Since then it has grown into a modern, 60,000 square-foot facility that has served more than a third million children and adults. Today NH serves over 4,000 people annually and provides accredited preschools, programs for kids, teens, parents and seniors. Neighborhood House has one of the inner city’s most comprehensive nutrition & healthy living programs that include partnerships with the Medical College of Wisconsin, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, United Way & other organizations. Together we combat low vaccination rates, poor nutrition, obesity, teen pregnancy, STDs & other pressing issues. Outstanding programs include teen Personal Responsibility Education Program, Outdoor and Environmental Education Program as well as our International Learning Center (winner of the Ray Solem Award for Excellence, First Lady Jessica Doyle award for Family Literacy and is one of only 3 citizenship program sites in Milwaukee accredited by the USBIA.)
