What Is Navionics?
NAVIONICS was founded in 1983 by a group of engineers and entrepreneurs of vast navigation experience, with the objective of developing innovative navigation systems. True to its mission, Navionics created the world's first commercial electronic chart, opening a new era in navigation, changing the way we go to sea and making boating more safe. Navionics pioneered a long string of technological breakthroughs: seamless technology, the first super detailed charts, the first port services guide, the first credit card-size cartridge, the first post-stamp size cartridge, the first data vending machines, the first electronic chart below $100. Navionics pioneered its unparalleled charting technology almost 15 years ago. It has since been imitated by the most advanced charting authorities because of its advantages: the unique ability of ensuring superior quality control, the most efficient use of memory and an effective updating method, as well as the same scale in presenting chart data as radar. Navionics' pride continues to be its seamless cartographic database, which contains 15,000 charts and port plans as of 2002, making it the largest privately owned database of its kind, and the only one using a fully seamless technology.
