What Is Mura Technology?

Mura Technology are world leaders in plastic recycling – offering an innovative chemical recycling technology that holds the potential to completely change both the vast quantities of waste plastic that pollutes our oceans and fills the land, and the way we view end-of-life plastic– turning it from a problem waste into a valuable resource for continual use. The Catalytic Hydrothermal Reactor (Cat-HTR™) uses water under supercritical conditions to convert the carbon-carbon bonds found in plastic into short-chain hydrocarbon products; in essence, returning plastic back into the chemicals and oils from which is was made. The Cat-HTR™ takes only 20 minutes – the end result is a product that can be fractioned into a number of hydrocarbons, ranging from a light hydrocarbon (process gas, which is reused), naphtha and oils to heavy waxes and residues. These products can then be further used in the petrochemical industry for the creation of new plastic, creating a circular plastics economy and reducing the need for fossil resource. The majority of waste plastic is currently incinerated or buried at the expense of the environment. Mura hold the key to Cat-HTR™, a chemical recycling technology able to convert this recovered waste back into the chemicals and oils from which is was made using supercritical water - contributing to a low-carbon, plastic neutral and sustainable future.
