User identities are at the core of the business. Organizations need to manage access to corporate resources and systems to an ever-changing flux of employees, partners and customers. Furthermore, new and growing partnership are raising between IoT providers and IAM vendors as a consequence of the continuous IT market development and the strengthening of the Industry 4.0 concept and Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Internet of Things was the “next big thing”: millions of objects connected to the Net and interconnected under the control of human beings. But the question is: is IoT a problem for security? The experts have started to shift technical and business approach: from the Internet of Things to the Identity of Things. The entire system is conditioned by the huge explosion in the number of connected objects around the world, not only existing ones, but also those projected that at some point will occupy a space in the IoT ecosystem; according to statistic by 2020 there will be over 50 billion connected devices around the world (Figure 1). This exorbitant growth in the number of connected devices has frayed every possible seam in the Identity and Access Management (IAM). The MONOKEE innovation business project is the correct answer to simplicity, security and scalability qualities requested by the IoT market, providing the first European Identity of Things service, fully compliant with the main European regulations (considering data and account security, IT solution and quality management).
