What Is Ministry for Culture and Heritage?

Manat? Taonga – Ministry for Culture and Heritage’s purpose is to promote a confident and connected culture, he ng?kau titikaha, he hononga tangata. We provide advice to Government on cultural and heritage matters, fund a range of cultural agencies, and deliver various cultural and heritage products and services for the benefit of all New Zealanders. Manat? Taonga – is a small Ministry with approximately 120 staff based at the historic Public Trust building in central Wellington. We work to promote a confident and connected culture and to support more New Zealanders to connect with the culture and heritage of Aotearoa. The Ministry supports many of New Zealand's arts, media, heritage and sports organisations, advises government on cultural matters and provides research and resources for everyone to access. We operate a lean and flat structure although our mandate and reach is wide. We pride ourselves on our agility and our open, collaborative and supportive culture.
