Meedan is a context company. We are working to make the web a bit deeper (Check), wider (Bridge), and truer (CredCo). Meedan builds digital tools for global journalism and translation. We are a team of designers, technologists and journalists who focus on open source investigation of digital media and crowdsourced translation of social media. With commercial, media and university partners, we support research, curriculum development, and new forms of digital storytelling. We have two flagship products that have been used on some of the most important collaborative journalism and translation projects on the web since 2006. Bridge helps communities translate, annotate, share, and source the most compelling global content on social media. https://meedan.com/bridge Starting with a pilot with the National Geographic Society and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Paul Salopek’s Out of Eden Walk project, the product aims to support a team of translators with tools like glossaries and translation memories. We also founded - with Hacks/Hackers - and run the Credibility Coalition, https://meedan.com/credco, an initiative to develop web standards for third party credibility indicators in partnership with Facebook, Google, Twitter, Wikimedia W3C, MIT, Georgia Tech, Berkeley, Hypothesis, Factmata, Public Editor, Global Voices, App Nexus, NY Times, AP, IPTC, Snopes, and many others. Meedan spun off and holds an equity stake in a for profit called Meedan Labs to explore creative consulting and product development opportunities.
