What Is Max J. Kuney Company?

Max J. Kuney Company was founded in 1930 by Max Kuney, Sr. Currently the 15th oldest construction company in Washington, the company is still actively managed by Kuney family, with Max J. Kuney IV as its president and Daniel Kuney as a vice president. For over 75 years, Max J. Kuney Company (MJK) has worked in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, California and Alaska. MJK has seen construction methods evolve from the use of horse drawn tractors, to diesel powered excavators, to today's state of the art equipment, including pile driving hammers that use environmentally safe corn oil in place of standard oil. Construction projects have ranged from building 19 miles of Alaskan highway in 1948, to driving the piling for Safeco Field in 1997. Buildings have included the Federal Reserve Building, Northgate Mall (both in Seattle under the Kuney-Johnson Company), the Spokane Opera House and Convention Center, the Spokane Ag Trade Center, and Seafirst National Bank. Several landmark bridges in the Northwest bear the Kuney mark. The Foss Waterway Bridge in Tacoma, WA was only the 13th cable stay bridge constructed in the country, at that time. Over 80% of the elevated freeway in Spokane, WA was built under MJK contract 30 years ago, and we recently widened I-90 east of Spokane to help reduce congestion. The historic St. Johns Bridge in Portland, OR and Lewis & Clark Bridge in Longview, WA both received complete renovations, including new bridge decks and seismic upgrades. Max J. Kuney company has won numerous awards both for excellence in construction and for dedication to safety in the workplace. As a member of the Associated General Contractor's of Washington Group Retro Program, MJK has a demonstrated commitment to improving safety on every job and in every craft. You can read about projects that are currently under construction on the Current Projects page. You can also read about some completed work on the Past Projects page.
