Mattern & Craig was founded in Roanoke, Virginia in February 1978 by J. Wayne Craig and E. K. Mattern, Jr. The firm was established to offer comprehensive civil and sanitary engineering services to public, corporate and governmental agencies. The firm has consistently adhered to its original objectives, and gradually enhanced its staff by adding experts in transportation, structural engineering, surveying, site planning and solid waste. As the firm grew, offices were opened in Kingsport, Tennessee in February 1992; Asheville, North Carolina in July 1994; Johnson City, Tennessee in December 1998, and most recently, Statesville NC in December 2013. Mattern & Craig became an employee-owned firm through the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) on January 1, 1988. We serve clients throughout Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. We continue to seek new clients and opportunities to apply our knowledge and skills regardless of project location, size, or complexity. Approximately 85 percent of our net fee revenues come from local, state or federal agencies.
