What Is Massachusetts Division of Banks?

Mission: To ensure a sound, competitive, and accessible financial services environment throughout the Commonwealth. Responsibility: To maintain public confidence in Massachusetts financial institutions through the oversight of state chartered banks and credit unions, as well as the supervision and licensing of the mortgage lending, money service business, sales finance, debt collection, and loan servicing industries operating in Massachusetts. The Division supervises nearly 180 banks and credit unions with total and also licenses over 8,000 non-depository licensees including mortgage lenders, mortgage brokers, mortgage loan originators, consumer finance companies, money service businesses, debt collectors, and loan servicers. Working for the Division of Banks: The majority of the Division's employees are Examiners who conduct a variety of on-site examinations at financial institutions which fall under the Division's jurisdiction. Full-time positions as Examiners are generally available within the Division's DIS and NDIS sections. As an Examiner you will ensure financial institutions adhere to sound practices and applicable laws, rules, and regulations. You will compile and analyze examination data, prepare a report, and present findings to institution management.
