What Is Lifeline Theatre?

Lifeline Theatre is driven by a passion for story. Our ensemble process supports writers in the development of literary adaptations and new work, and our theatrical and educational programs foster a lifelong engagement with literature and the arts. A cultural anchor of Rogers Park, we are committed to deepening our connection to an ever-growing family of artists and audiences, both near and far. Founded in 1983, Lifeline's home in Rogers Park – a converted Commonwealth Edison substation – includes a 99-seat theater, rehearsal and office space, costume and prop storage and a scene shop. Our 2015-16 MainStage season features three world premiere adaptations: Miss Buncle’s Book, Midnight Cowboy, and a musical version of Northanger Abbey. Our 2015-16 KidSeries season features three world premiere musical adaptations: Mr. Popper’s Penguin’s, Sparky!, and Lester’s Dreadful Sweaters All of Lifeline's productions offer dedicated performances for patrons with disabilities. We host an open-captioned performance for patrons who are deaf/hard-of-hearing, a performance with a touch tour and audio description for patrons who are blind or have low vision, and every KidSeries production features a special autism-friendly performance, offering a relaxed experience for those individuals on the autism spectrum or with cognitive/developmental disabilities. Lifeline's Student Matinee program serves over 4,000 Chicago Public School students. Our Artists-in-Residence program brings theatre education to grades K-8, working with over 900 students annually. We are seeking arts-loving individuals with experience or interest in the fields of fundraising, event planning, or strategic planning, and with diverse networks and/or ties to arts-supporting companies in the Chicago area. For more information on joining Lifeline’s Board of Directors, please contact Brian Bush, Development Manager, at 773.761.4477 x708 or brian@lifelinetheatre.com.
