What Is LifeFlight Eagle?

LifeFlight Eagle is a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides life-saving air-medical transport to critically ill and injured patients from rural communities surrounding Kansas City, providing access to levels of care not available at community hospitals. Founded in 1996, LifeFlight Eagle employs an elite team of critical-care flight nurses and flight paramedics and equips them with the with the best tools, techniques, medications and training that allows them to give critically ill and injured patients their best chance at survival on their worst day. LifeFlight Eagle’s teams respond to requests for support from first responders and community hospitals. Our aircraft land at the scene of an accident or at a hospital helipad, where our medical crew members take over patient treatment and provide an intensive-care environment while flying 150 miles per hour to the life-saving surgical or specialty treatment the patient requires. Our commitment and reputation for providing superior quality care, integrity and safety is unmatched, making LifeFlight Eagle the air transport provider of choice in more than 20 counties in Missouri and Kansas, and for more than 240 agencies. LifeFlight Eagle’s roots date back to 1978, when Saint Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City founded Spirit of Saint Joseph LifeFlight, which was the nation’s fifth air-medical program and the first in Missouri. In 1996, LifeFlight Eagle was formed when LifeFlight merged with Research Eagle to form LifeFlight Eagle as a financially independent non-profit organization. The LifeFlight Eagle system has grown to include four helicopters based in Chillicothe, Odessa, Clinton and Harrisonville, Mo., as well as an additional helicopter dedicated to and staffed by the Children's Mercy Critical Care Transport Team in Kansas City. All of LifeFlight Eagle's bases are staffed 24/7/365 with a pilot, flight nurse and flight paramedic. Our aircraft are operated and maintained by PHI Air Medical.
