What Is Leonardo/ISAST?

Leonardo/ISAST is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Its Mission: The critical challenges of the 21st century require mobilization and cross-fertilization among the domains of art, science and technology. Leonardo/ISAST fosters collaborative explorations both nationally and internationally by facilitating interdisciplinary projects and documenting and disseminating information about interdisciplinary practice. Activities include publication journals and web sites, including Leonardo and Leonardo Music Journal and the Leonardo Book Series (all published by the MIT Press), as well as programs and activities involving the intersection of art, science and technology. Leonardo Publishing Program included online and electronic publishing initiatives focused on interactive and emerging media, including Leonardo and Leonardo Music Journal, LMJ Audio Companion (downloadable compilation of curated audio tracks) (in print and on-line) and the Leonardo Book Series (all published by the MIT Press); and the digital/electronic publications Leonardo Electronic Almanac, Leonardo On-Line. Leonardo Engagement Programming included the popular LASERs (Leonardo Art & Science Evening Rendezvous), which are lecture/networking gatherings that spotlight art and science practitioners and thinkers at 12 locations across the U.S. and internationally. Leonardo also programmed a NetSci Satellite Symposium as well as other Leonardo meetings, workshops and gatherings within international conferences such as the annual ISEA and SIGGRAPH conferences. The Scientific Delirium Madness artist/scientist residency (in collaboration with the Djerassi Resident Artists Program) and the Leonardo Education and Art Forum (LEAF) are also activities in which we engaged the art/science and education communities.
