What Is Lawrence Memorial / Regis College Nursing and Radiography Program?
Creating Leaders in Healthcare In 1998, the Lawrence Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, in existence since 1924, collaborated with Regis College to provide an associate degree nursing program. The professional associate of science degree with a major in nursing is approved by the Board of Registration in Nursing of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. In 2004, the Radiography Program was started to meet the need for more radiographers for the health care industry. The Radiography Program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. The Lawrence Memorial/Regis College Nursing and Radiography Programs provide students with a unique blend of classroom and clinical experience, expert faculty and dynamic curricula. Both programs continue a tradition of excellence providing students with the professional knowledge and skills needed in the ever-changing health care professions. Graduates of these associate degree programs qualify to take the national examination for licensure as registered nurses or radiographers. The outstanding performance on these examinations by past graduates is testimony to the quality of education and to the high caliber of our students. Total enrollment is about 350 students whose ages range from 19 to over 50. The majority of students are 25 to 35 years old and most have taken some college level courses prior to enrollment or have college degrees. About seven percent are male students and eighteen percent are minority. Faculty is highly qualified both academically and professionally; almost all are prepared at the master’s and/or doctoral degree level. Several nursing faculty have achieved advanced practice status and specialty certifications. Both nursing and radiography faculty have extensive practical experience in the area in which they teach.
