What Is Knoxville-Knox County Planning?

Knoxville-Knox County Planning was established in 1956 by Knoxville and Knox County as the agency responsible for comprehensive county-wide planning and administration of zoning and land subdivision regulations and remains so today, except for the town of Farragut. The Commission - Prepares and adopts a general plan - Reviews subdivision regulations and site plans - Prepares and recommends zoning ordinances and maps to Knox County Commission and Knoxville City Council - Reviews proposed zoning amendments - Prepares a capital improvements plan for the City of Knoxville The Planning Commission is comprised of 15 members; seven members appointed by the Mayor of Knoxville and eight members appointed by the Mayor of Knox County. Commissioners serve four-year staggered terms, without compensation. An appointed executive director and additional staff work in three divisions: Planning Services, Transportation Planning, and Information Services. The Planning Commission meets the second Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in the Main Assembly Room, City-County Building.
