What Is Kirberg Roofing?

Kirberg Company, founded in 1920 in St. Louis, is one of the oldest and largest roofing contractors in the Midwest and a leader in green technology. Lawrence Group collaborated with Kirberg on design and build redevelopment of the historic property. Lawrence Group provided design services, construction documents and construction administration for the main building's office and warehouse space, including a dock. Lawrence Group also worked on site development, a car museum (Kirberg Company president Doug Kirberg's hobby) and a car/truck shop at the facility. The two-story 1958 masonry structure, located in an urban warehouse district south of the Gateway Arch, has significant industrial and architectural significance. Lawrence Group handled the paperwork and submission for historic tax credits, which the owner used to leverage financing for the building's renovation. The gut-rehab project included "green" materials, processes and systems for sustainable design for LEED NC 2.2 certification. These include bamboo flooring, sensor lighting, maximized day lighting and views, recycled demolition materials and recycled new materials. Another "green" aspect was the installation of a shower to promote alternative transportation by employees. The project achieved a 40 percent decrease in water usage through waterless urinals, dual flush toilets, sensored faucets, low flow fixtures and a green roof.
